The Coalition are generally keen to bring anyone willing to listen over to their cause. If you hang around them for long enough, you'll be invited to general meetings, where members discuss and debate and take votes on the group's official position on matters. Of course, there are certain meetings where only trusted members are invited. This generally means people who have been around the longest, have been the most involved, and have proven themselves loyal when the True Elysians have caused trouble. But for the most part, they encourage people to listen in on political discussions in the hopes it might sway them. As long as they aren't too violently patriotically inclined, that is.
“United we stand. Divided we fall.”
Life as part of the Coalition can be tense at times. This is perhaps unsurprising given that it is necessarily made up of very opinionated people who cannot get very far away from each other. Even less surprising when you realise just how little they actually agree on. The latest issue the Coalition is facing (and the largest for quite some time) is the division over the newly formed alliance with the Prisoners of War. About two months ago, without informing the Coalition, Aanya began talks with General Zhar Ro Zhist Vrak about potential for cooperation between the two groups. Negotiations were terse but three weeks ago, Aanya and General Zhar Ro Zhist Vrak reached terms, and Aanya approached the Coalition about the agreement. After a fierce debate, largely led by Aanya and Linh, a very close vote decided the matter. An alliance was made.
The principle of the alliance is simple: if a member of either gang is harassed or subject to unfair treatment, both gangs will do what is within their power to help them. This includes but is not limited to: intervening to physically defend someone, bartering with guards to have some unjust punishment commuted, or giving medical aid to anyone injured. However, this does not appear to have been properly put into practice yet. During the chaos after the crash, a fight broke out between the True Elysians and the Prisoners of War. Some of the Coalition were seen nearby, notably refusing to help.
Since the reorganisation of Work Groups, the alliance is very fragile, and Aanya and the General are deeply concerned that it may fall apart. This is due in no small part to Linh's attempts to stir up dissidence among the Coalition in an attempt to get it overthrown.
Aanya arrived in the prison with the last shuttle. For the first month she was… disorientated. She seemed to have trouble focusing on anything and her memory of the two months prior was hazy at best. When she began to come back to herself, she started to rapidly gather traction in the Coalition and managed to establish herself as the unofficial leader by six months in. She is known for having a mind for politics, alternating between appearing charming and calculating in equal measure.
In the last couple of weeks – and maybe it's just the stress of the constantly crumbling alliance – she appears to be suffering from episodes similar to when she first arrived. They're short lived, only lasting a minute or so, but no one really knows what's causing them. Of course, Aanya herself insists she's fine.
Linh was a prolific writer raised on one of the non-planetary colonies. Mostly, she wrote pamphlets on the rights of workers and on the need for inclusion of non-planetary colonies in the Electoral College and the Short List. Her refusal to cease and desist by order of the Board of Directed Truth is what landed her in prison. She's known for being quite vocal and very blunt. Before Aanya arrived, she was self-appointed spokesperson for the Coalition.
She has been quietly trying to regain support since Aanya began speaking with the Prisoners of War, contending that the General is a war criminal and responsible for the deaths of countless of their citizens, many of whom had been conscripted into the war in the first place. She has a large minority of the Coalition on her side.
Aanya Khatri's friend and second in command. She worked with Aanya in the organisation known as Liberty or Death, and is a technical expert. She was a supporter of the alliance and a constant opponent of Linh Tran. She's known for being a vocal advocate of violent revolution and a passionate speaker.
Jimmy Maine - Deceased: The leader of the True Elysians and absolutely brutal in close combat. Do not engage unless you are really very sure of yourself.
Yuri Tanaka: Unlikely to get into a fight with you, but has a way with words. Perhaps unsurprising, since she worked for The Board of Directed Truth. There's a rumour she might still be in contact with them, so be careful what you say around her.
Winter Castell - Deceased: Admittedly, they seem to dislike everyone. However, some guards are more straight-flying than others, and this one certainly won't tolerate seditious ideas in their presence.
Zhar Ro Zhist Vrak: A bit severe, and doesn't seem to like Aanya all too much personally, but a leader of the Tel and a supporter of the alliance.
Sho Nust Sars Shin - Deceased: A welcoming and friendly member of the Prisoners of War; Sho Nust is supporter of the alliance.
Charles Richards - Deceased: A friend of Aanya's. He used to come to meetings when he first arrived but has since extricated himself from the group, though he remains on friendly terms. He's rumoured to be associated with the family.
Asher Segal: He helped the prisoners - he helped us - during the riots.
