Maine was known to the authorities well before he was imprisoned for instigating a riot that began as a fist-fight between Maine himself and a man he claimed to be a Tel agent. The resulting property damage and injuries were sufficient cause to get Maine arrested and sentenced - a relief to local authorities, since while he had previously been suspected of a number of burglaries and assaults, witnesses had hitherto been unwilling to directly implicate him.

Since his incarceration, Maine has had his sentence extended multiple times for fighting with other prisoners, particularly Tel, and instigating disturbances, either alone or as part of the gang known as the True Elysians, of whom he has become, if not the leader, at least the best-known and longest-standing member.
