Until their arrest, Yuri Tanaka was an up-and-coming civil servant at the Board of Directed Truth, Network Oversight Department. Supplementing a civil service salary with side interests is nothing unremarkable, and their small business, selling ornamental plants to off-world gardeners, attracted little attention for years - until an investigation discovered a long chain of carefully-concealed fraud and tax evasion. Tanaka was arrested, their assets seized, and they themselves shipped off to Redemption.

Since arriving at the facility, Tanaka has proved a model inmate: helpful, hard-working, and clearly trying to do their best to work off the stain on their reputation. While they regularly associate with members of the True Elysians, they do not tend to participate in their more disruptive activities.
